Maestro is a PDA made accessible by HumanWare using a text-to-speech technology adapted application and a tactile keyboard membrane over the PDA's touch screen.

Maestro offers you unparalleled portability and the convenience of state-of-the-art wireless technology. For example, you can take notes directly with the integrated tactile keyboard or with an external wireless Braille or Qwerty keyboard.

Flexibility and connectivity

Maestro's flexible environment allows you to add other HumanWare applications (ex. Trekker GPS system and Victor Reader, the digital talking book player). You can also easily transfer files between your Maestro and PC.

Maestro - Infrared Keyboards
Enhanced note taking capability

Maestro version 1.0.2 delivers enhanced note-taking capability. Now users can input data quickly and conveniently anytime, anywhere. Maestro takes advantage of infrared wireless technology to communicate with two popular portable folding QWERTY keyboards, doing away with cumbersome wires and adapters. As long as the PDA and keyboard are within IR (infrared) range, users are free to type as they please, making keyboard-intensive tasks such as taking detailed notes a breeze.

In addition, Maestro version 1.0.2 includes a driver that enables full PDA access and control; so users can alternately use the PDA tactile keyboard or the external wireless keyboard without having to quit Maestro applications. The popular Key Describer feature is also available for the external keyboard, minimizing the learning curve.

Maestro supports two popular foldable infrared keyboards

Both can be purchased directly from major online stores and retailers.

The Belkin Infrared Wireless PDA Keyboard is a full-featured foldable keyboard that includes a number row and four function keys. Retail price: US$50.

Update to Maestro 1.1

What's new in Maestro 1.1 ?

This version includes two main features:

  • Victor Reader Pocket
  • The Bluetooth manager, with the ability to drive the HP Bluetooth foldable keyboard.

 

1. Victor Reader Pocket

  • Ability to play DAISY 2.02 and DAISY NISO books.
  • Familiar Classic+ user interface through use of Maestro numeric keypad.
  • Advanced functions: bookmark, Goto Page, Where Am I, Book Info, Sleep, Bookshelf.
  • Toggle between three playback modes:
    • a. DAISY recorded audio mode
    • b. TTS (text-to-speech) DAISY mode. Text only or audio/text DAISY using the Maestro TTS and navigates the book in the DAISY navigation (chapter, section, page) paradigm.
    • c. TTS Windows mode. This playback mode also plays text only or audio/text books but in the Windows navigation paradigm (previous/next screen, line, word, character). This allows maximum access to text for spelling words, reading word by word, or line by line.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You must have Maestro 1.0 installed on your PDA before applying this update. Installation is done using a PC connected to the PDA via ActiveSync. If you need to do a hard reset on the PDA, you MUST reinstall Maestro 1.0 before proceeding with the update. You will find the complete Maestro 1.1 documentation included inside this package.
