Braille everywhere

Before Index Everest, no braille embosser worked in the developing world. Where continuous braille paper was too difficult or expensive to find, there was very limited braille communication. Index Everest use the kind of paper that can be found at your corner store. For those who require the most flexible embossing, Index Everest is the answer.

The history of Index Everest

During the 80:s all electronic braille embosser was using tractor fed paper. The only method to make braille on singe papers was by using big mechanical braille press machines that was suitable only for large volume production. By combining the electronic possibilities of that time, with an existing sheet feeder and the latest embossing technology the success of Index Everest was given.

Index Everest-D/S V1 1992

Index Braille started the development of Index Everest in 1990 and it was introduced in 1992. It was the first standing printer in the world, and was soon rewarded a national design prize. With Index Everest we were the first to offer reasonably prized double sided embossing. Everest was also the first embosser with sheet feeder, speech feedback and control panel in braille. The start of the Index Everest project was actually much to advanced for Index Braille at that time.

Index Everest-D V2 1996

The more advanced Index Everest, V2, was introduced in 1996.

Index Everest V3 2003

In 2003 Index Everest V3 was introduced, packed with high performing technology and new software solutions, USB, network support.

Still, after 15 years on the market, no other embosser competes with the groundbreaking Index Everest.

Index Index Everest V3 was based on a common platform with Index Basic, the same electronic platform later used for the Index 4Waves Pro high speed production embosser.

Easy to read history from 1990 until V3 2003

The idea to make a desk top, sheet fed, double sided embosser to a good price come in the late 80's.

There were many challenges to face, such a finding a sheet feeder that could be used for braille paper; create an embossing head for double sided embossing at a reasonable price; implement a speech feedback interface; design a product that could feed the paper as a standing embosser.

the development of the first Index Everest started in 1990 and the first delivery was in  1992. This was the first development project where Index used outside experts for the design and specific development tasks in order to include more knowledge in the product design.

Index Index Everest was rewarded a design award from the 'Swedish Industri Design' organization for excellent product design.

The development of Index Everest Version 2 started in 1993 and the first product was sold in 1995. The main tasks was to increase the general quality, increase braille quality, reduce production failure and improve service accessibility.

The development of Index Everest V3 was combined with Basic-D and 4X4 PRO and for the first time Index used the same development platform, and most significant modules in all products. This was a key point to increase quality and to get effective production. The development started in 2002 and the Index Everest V3 was produced from 2003-2010.

Improvements on Everest-D V4

  • Higher mechanical stability of the side plates.
  • The paper movement rollers are easier to access for service.
  • The sheet feeder is easier to access for service.
  • The fan is moved from the back plate to internal montage, giving a clean back plate without cables.
  • The distance to the paper out level is increased with 10 millimeters which gives more stable paper out handling.
  • The internal plastic paper guides are replaced by a re-designed corresponding aluminum profile.
  • Lower weight: 13.3 kg.
  • Separate switch power supply 100-264 Volt.
